New York based designer Kate Guardino is the founder of Elisabete, a handmade clothing and accessories brand.
Kate commissioned me to design a logo, requesting that it contain a peony and the name of her brand. Elisabete is French inspired with a vintage, feminine vibe, and she wanted both the peony and the font to convey these concepts. I played around with a variety of fonts and hand-drawn peony imagery (scroll down to see the various renditions) and after a brief consultation we quickly settled on the final version (shown on the right). The font is designed and drawn by me, inspired by old fonts used on French menus from the 1920s.
Kate has used a variation of the logo for her brand’s tote bags, which are made from sustainable and recycled materials.
